Last week was Homecoming week. If you know me or my husband at all, you know that we are not sports fans. Sure, we like to watch our kids play soccer, but that’s pretty much the extent of our enthusiasm for sports.
So, when I found out a few weeks ago that Little D’s name had been drawn to be ball carrier this year, I will admit that I was a little torn at first. My thought process went something like this: Oh, that’s neat. Little D will be excited. Wait, that means we have to go to a football game. I don’t know anything about football. Well, Little D likes football.
Anyway, he ended up participating and he loved every minute of it. Getting to be in the spotlight (he’s quite the little ham) and hang out with some big football players…a little boy’s dream!
To make the evening even more special, our niece won the title of Homecoming Queen. (Congrats, Traci!
) We’re very proud of her and Little D had a blast hanging out with his cousin.
I also found out – after I agreed to let Little D be the ball carrier – that my husband, Mike, was also the ball carrier when he was in the 1st grade! Mike’s long-time friend, Rhonda (who was also the crown bearer with him 32 years ago), was able to dig up this photo from way back when (this would have been taken in 1980 or so)…
I swear, I love everything about this photo! I also love that Mike and Little D will share this in common. Who knows, maybe one day Little D will have a son that will carry on the ball carrier tradition. (Wow, that’s hard to even comprehend. Let’s just stick to the present time).

Love love loved reading this, even brought tears to my eyes! Hands down one of the best nights ever!! Congrats to our baby girl for winning and to our incredibly cute nephew for carrying the ball <3
